Chief Accountant of the National Center for Infectious Diseases Misuses Company Funds for Personal Needs

The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia has uncovered significant misappropriation of funds involving the chief accountant of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Health of Armenia. This comes alongside findings of negligence from the company's directors, who failed to fulfill their responsibilities due to a lack of professionalism.

According to the evidence gathered during the investigation, the chief accountant exploited the directors' negligent behavior to execute 105 transactions from the company's bank account between September 2019 and December 2020, using an electronic key provided by one of the banks operating in Armenia. A total of 348,502,000 AMD was withdrawn as cash from the account, of which 242,200,000 AMD was returned as repayment. However, a significant remainder of 106,302,000 AMD was converted into cash using her official position, with the funds used for her personal needs.

During the pre-trial investigation, the chief accountant fully reimbursed the misappropriated amounts. Based on the accumulated evidence, she was charged under Article 179, Part 3, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Additionally, one of the company's directors was charged under Article 315, Part 2 of the same Code. It was also revealed that another director had crossed the state border of Armenia in September 2021 and has not returned since. He has been included as a defendant under Article 315, Part 2, and is currently wanted.

The investigation regarding the chief accountant and one of the directors has been completed, and the criminal case has been forwarded to court with an accusatory conclusion.
