Aliyev Calls for Recognizing Armenia's Territorial Integrity and Establishing Peace Treaty
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has called for concrete negotiations with Yerevan to sign a peace treaty. According to him, the peace treaty with Azerbaijan, based on the five fundamental principles proposed by the Azerbaijani side, is the only solution for Armenia, the last opportunity.
"If Armenia refuses to sign a peace treaty, we will officially announce that we do not recognize their territorial integrity," noted the Azerbaijani autocrat.
Below we recall the principles of the peace treaty proposed by Azerbaijan:
- The parties mutually recognize the sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and political independence of each other.
- The parties confirm that they do not have territorial claims against each other and undertake a legal obligation to refrain from such claims in the future.
- The parties commit to abstaining from threats towards each other’s security in international relations, refraining from threats and force against each other’s political independence and territorial integrity, as well as other circumstances that contradict the UN Charter.
- The parties commit to delimiting and demarcating borders and establishing diplomatic relations.
- The parties commit to opening transport routes and communications, establishing other relevant communications, and cooperating in other areas of mutual interest.
