The Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoigu, reported to President Vladimir Putin that 1,478 militants have already surrendered. It was noted that more than 142,000 civilians have been evacuated from Mariupol. The Minister of Defense clarified that the Armed Forces of Russia and Donbas have taken all necessary measures to protect the population.

According to Shoigu, it will take 3-4 days to complete the operation at Azovstal. Putin deemed the attack on the Azovstal industrial zone in Mariupol unnecessary and ordered to cancel it: “There is no need to enter the catacombs, it is necessary to block the industrial zone at Azovstal in such a way that not even a fly can escape,” said the Russian President.

Earlier, it had been reported that Shoigu announced that Mariupol has been liberated.
