An Oil and Gas Import Embargo from Russia Would Be Suicide for Europe, Says Le Pen

“An oil and gas import embargo from Russia would be suicide for Europe. Russia will find other places to export its oil and gas,” said French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen during a televised debate with President Emmanuel Macron. “The only sanction from the EU that I disagree with is the embargo on gas and oil supplies from Russia,” Le Pen stated.   “This measure will not affect Russia, but it will harm the French people.” She added, “In my opinion, such a decision would be wrong.”

Le Pen believes that this position would lead to a “strong rapprochement between Russia and China.” It is noteworthy that the debate, featuring Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, lasted for 2 hours and 50 minutes ahead of the second round of presidential elections in France.
