Russian and Belarusian Tennis Players Officially Banned from Competing at Wimbledon

Russian and Belarusian tennis players are banned from participating in the 2022 Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, according to the event's website.

“It is with deep regret that we intend to reject the entries of Russian and Belarusian players for the 2022 tournament,” the statement reads.

According to the announcement, this decision was made due to the special operation conducted by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

All England Club president Ian Hewitt has stated that if the geopolitical situation changes by June, the organizers will be ready to reconsider the decision.

As a result, the world’s second-ranked player, Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, will also be unable to participate.

Last month, British Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston had proposed the removal of Russian tennis players from participating in Wimbledon.
