Aliyev's Statement: I Asked Pashinyan for the Geographic Coordinates of the Road, but There Was No Response
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev hosted a delegation led by Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus. He praised the trilateral meeting in Brussels with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Council President Charles Michel, according to minval.az.
"The trilateral meeting was very constructive, with good results and achievements. I would like to thank President Charles Michel for his efforts and the atmosphere he created that allowed us to discuss very important issues and agree to start the resolution process. I believe this was the starting point. Because we agreed to establish border commissions and at the same time peace agreement working groups. We have talked about this before, and as you know, since the end of the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan's position has always been that we should start negotiations around a peace agreement. I believe that the official starting point took place on April 6 in Brussels. Since then, we have been working, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working, and my administration is in contact with your team, and we are ready to begin as agreed. I consider it important that we continue this progress, and that both sides adhere to the agreements," Aliyev emphasized.
According to him, one of the issues requiring clarification from the Armenian side is the connectivity between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. "I mean both the railway and the highway. As for the railway, I informed President Michel that we have constructed over 100 and 60 kilometers of railway in Azerbaijan, and we will complete the construction next year. However, unfortunately, the technical and economic justification has not yet started in Armenia, which indicates that the process may be prolonged. Regarding the highway, Azerbaijan is actively constructing it, and most of the road has already been built. We also hope that by the end of next year we will probably reach the road leading to the Armenian border. Unfortunately, during the meeting in Brussels, the Prime Minister of Armenia did not mention the geographic coordinates. I raised this question during the video conference on February 4, but there was no response. I asked again about the geographic coordinates of the road on April 6, but there was no response. I hope we will receive it in the near future," Aliyev emphasized.
