In Grand Rapids, Michigan, a police officer has shot and killed a black man for failing to comply with an officer's request. The incident has sparked large-scale protests.
According to life.ru, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the police department in Grand Rapids after the officer shot and killed 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya, a black man from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The police have released video footage of the attempted arrest.
As reported by NyPost, the police officer stopped Patrick Lyoya due to suspicious license plates. Contrary to the officer's orders, the man exited his vehicle and attempted to flee. During a struggle, he tried to grab the officer's taser, prompting the officer to demand he drop the device, before shooting him in the back one second later.
Amid protests, city shop windows have been boarded up due to fears of riots and looting.
