Zelensky Offers to Exchange Putin's Ally for Ukrainian Prisoners

The Security Service of Ukraine announced yesterday the discovery and arrest of Viktor Medvedchuk, a member of Parliament and leader of the pro-Russian opposition. Medvedchuk is accused of treason and supporting terrorist organizations. He had been in hiding, and Ukrainian security forces claim he was captured while attempting to leave the country.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has proposed exchanging him for Ukrainian citizens currently held in Russian captivity.

“I propose to the Russian Federation to exchange your guy for our boys and girls in Russian captivity. It is important for our law enforcement and military to also consider this possibility,” the president stated.

Zelensky also remarked, “He hid for 48 days. And finally, he decided to try to escape beyond the borders of our state. Well, for this ‘astronaut’—in the negative sense of the word—the well-known ‘Let’s go’ did not work.”
