Shooting in Brooklyn Subway Claims 5 Lives, Investigated as Terrorism

A shooting occurred at the Sunset Park subway station in Brooklyn, New York. American media reports indicate that there are 5 fatalities and 13 people injured.

The gunman, described as wearing a gas mask and a bulletproof vest, opened fire and subsequently fled the scene. NBC reports that the shooter was wearing an orange construction vest and has not yet been apprehended.

Fox News also reports that explosive devices were discovered at the scene, which did not detonate. The New York Police Department is investigating the incident within the New York subway system.

In response to the shooting, two schools have been closed, and most of the nearby businesses have been evacuated, as reported by NBC New York.

President Biden has been briefed on the shooting in the subway. Senior White House officials are in contact with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell to offer any assistance if necessary.
