Qatar to Allocate 5 Million Dollars for Ukrainian Refugees
The government of Qatar will allocate 5 million dollars in humanitarian assistance for Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced persons. This announcement was made by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Emirate, Lolwa bint Rashid Al-Khater, as reported by TASS.
“The State of Qatar has announced through the Qatar Development Fund the allocation of 5 million dollars to support Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons, emphasizing that the severe humanitarian situation affecting millions of refugees continues. The escalation and tensions require the international community to develop emergency plans to address their vital needs,” the statement said.
According to Al-Khater, Qatar calls for “the immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the establishment of secure humanitarian corridors for the delivery of aid,” as well as resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 4.5 million people have been displaced from Ukraine to neighboring countries between February 24 and April 9. As reported by media on April 7, the total number of citizens transferred from the territories of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), and Ukraine to the Russian Federation has exceeded 650,000.
