Billions in Aid to Ukraine, Says European Commission President

Participants at a charity event in Warsaw have raised €9.1 billion in aid for Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced persons. This was announced on Saturday by Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.

According to the statement from the European Commission, of this amount, €1 billion has been allocated by the European Commission. "In addition, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced an additional loan of €1 billion to address the needs of displaced people," the document states.

The initiative to help refugees from Ukraine was organized by the European Commission and the Canadian government. This took place on Friday through social media, where users were urged to call on their governments, organizations, and corporations to donate funds to Ukraine and provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from the country.

On Saturday, a conference was held in Warsaw to summarize the results of the fundraising effort. More than 3.2 million people have fled from Ukraine to neighboring countries, with 2.6 million of them going to Poland.
