Yerevan Lake to Become a Recreation Area: Yerevan Municipality

Yerevan Lake will become a comfortable relaxation zone. Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan has gotten acquainted with the cleaning works within the framework of the annual program of the Yerevan Municipality. The cleaning operations for Yerevan Lake have started with a budget allocation of 60 million 430 thousand drams for 2022. This funding will facilitate the installation of a barrier on the Hrazdan River, organization of waste collection activities, and the gathering and transportation of around 12,500 cubic meters of waste.

During a site visit, Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan became familiar with the progress of the works. The primary cause of pollution in the lake is household and construction waste, which accumulates in the area due to the irresponsible behavior of residents. In conjunction with the cleaning of Yerevan Lake, the community is also discussing the possibility of creating a recreation area in the location. Plans include landscaping a 2.8-hectare section along the shores of the lake, installation of benches, trash bins, and the construction of a sports ground, cycling paths, and walking trails. The area will be illuminated with energy-efficient lighting, and greening works will also be carried out.

During a visit to the municipal nursery, the mayor was presented with the works planned for 2022. Officials indicated that this year, the greenhouse and nursery area will be expanded. Of approximately 25 hectares, about 10 hectares are currently utilized. A significant portion of the trees and flowers planted in the city is grown in the greenhouse and nursery, with around 30 employees cultivating about 60 species of plants, including those listed in the Red Book.
