Incident at Azerbaijan-Iran Border: Iranian Citizen Killed

An armed incident has been reported at the Azerbaijan-Iran border, during which Azerbaijani forces killed an Iranian citizen.

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan presented its version of the events, stating that six Iranians attempted to cross the state border of Azerbaijan, claiming that they were armed.

The incident occurred near the village of Shihaliagali in the Jabrail region. Azerbaijani authorities claim that the border violators did not obey the 'Stop' command, and the border patrol opened fire, neutralizing one of them.

The deceased has been identified as Behnam Balayan, an Iranian citizen born in 1996. A Kalashnikov assault rifle and 32.7 kg of drugs were found on him.

Another Iranian citizen, Mohammed Zareh Tagin, was arrested after fleeing the scene of the shooting. He was discovered in the border area. Search operations for other border violators continue.
