Peskov Discusses the Unique Relationship Between Putin and Lukashenko

Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, spoke to Belarusian television about the unique relationship between Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, noting that the leaders of the Russian Federation and Belarus always aim to maintain a friendly dialogue, even though they sometimes defend their countries' interests very firmly during negotiations.

“Alexander Grigoryevich has an absolutely unique relationship with our president. They truly have a unique relationship,” Peskov said in an interview with Belarus 1, part of which was broadcast on Saturday.

“I am sure that Alexander Grigoryevich’s heart aches no less than Vladimir Vladimirovich’s for everything that is happening now in Ukraine. That is indeed true. And they understand each other. And the disagreements that we may have, they also understand,” Peskov noted.

However, according to Peskov, the most important thing for the presidents is always the continuation of their friendly dialogue.

“Although, believe me, they sometimes say not entirely personal things to each other, sometimes very harsh, because after all there are Belarusian interests, there are Russian interests,” he added.
