33-Year-Old Man Promises to Marry Armenian Woman Living in Russia, Receives Large Sum of Money from Her
The investigation by the Syunik regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee into the case of large-scale extortion and fraud committed by a 33-year-old man has been completed. The Investigative Committee reports that it has been established through the investigation that the 33-year-old resident of the Syunik region used a method of deception and abuse of trust to steal a large sum of money.
With a unified intent, he met an Armenian woman residing in Russia under a fake name on the internet by using various applications downloaded to his personal phone. Under the pretext of traveling to meet her for marriage, he demanded money from the woman in installments and received a total of 2,153,790 AMD, equivalent to 314,000 RUB, through bank transfers during the months of March-April 2021.
Additionally, during June-July 2021, the 33-year-old man demanded 2,282,000 AMD, equivalent to 350,000 RUB, from the mentioned woman via the WhatsApp application, threatening to publish damaging information about her if she did not fulfill his demands.
Based on the evidence obtained, the 33-year-old man has been charged under Article 178, Part 2, Point 2, and Article 182, Part 2, Point 3.1 of the RA Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor conducting the proceedings with a request to confirm the indictment and forward it to court.
