Russia Takes Two Steps Towards De-Escalation in Ukraine, Says Medinsky

Russia and Ukraine have concluded a round of face-to-face negotiations in Istanbul, which were described as constructive. This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the Russian delegation and presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky during a briefing on the outcomes of the meetings between the Moscow and Kyiv delegations, as reported by TASS.

"The negotiations with the Ukrainian side have been completed, and they have been constructive," he stated.

According to Medinsky, Russia is making two steps towards Ukraine aimed at de-escalation.

"I can say that we are also taking two steps towards de-escalation of the conflict," he noted.

Medinsky explained that these steps pertain to both the political and military aspects. He also mentioned that the Russian delegation in Istanbul received a clearly articulated position and proposals from the Ukrainian side, which will be studied and presented to the country's leadership.

"We have received proposals from Ukraine regarding their articulated position to be included in the agreement. These proposals will be discussed in the near future and presented to the President. And our response will be given. If the agreement works quickly and a compromise is found, the possibility of establishing peace will get closer," Medinsky added.
