Video: Bear Attack in Amasia Community

The Ministry of Environment of Armenia has reported: “Reports of damage caused to community residents by brown bears are currently under the attention of the Ministry of Environment.  Today, the Ministry received alerts from environmental organizations regarding bear attacks in the Amasia community of Shirak Province and the damage caused to citizens and their properties.

The issue is serious, as it poses threats to the health and lives of citizens, as well as significant socio-economic and environmental components. Consequently, it is under the close watch of the Ministry of Environment. To address the problem, the Ministry regularly convenes consultations with the participation of stakeholders.

It is worth noting that tomorrow a consultation will be held involving representatives of the community, police, and regional representatives of the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body regarding the alert.

Additionally, it should be recalled that the brown bear is listed in the Republic of Armenia's Red Book of Animals, and there are legal consequences for killing the animal, including fines ranging from 400 to 600 times the minimum wage or imprisonment for 2-3 months, in addition to restitution for damages ranging from 1 to 5 million dram.”
