Elon Musk on Creating a New Social Platform
The CEO of American company Tesla, Elon Musk, is "seriously considering" creating a new platform for social networks. The billionaire announced this on his Twitter channel over the weekend.
Musk responded to a question from a Twitter user asking whether he is contemplating the possibility of creating a social media platform that prioritizes free speech while minimizing campaigning.
Musk, who is an active Twitter user himself, has recently criticized the social media platform and its policies. He stated that the company undermines democracy by failing to uphold the principle of free speech.
His post came a day after he conducted a survey on Twitter, asking users whether they are committed to the principles of free speech on social media, to which more than 70 percent responded "no."
"The results of this survey will be significant. Please vote carefully," the businessman said on Friday.
If Musk decides to move forward with the creation of a new platform, he will join a growing group of tech companies that present themselves as advocates for free speech and hope to attract users who feel their voices are suppressed on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
None of these companies, including Donald Trump’s Truth Social, Twitter competitors Gettr and Parler, or Rumble, have so far been able to reach popularity and scale comparable to the major platforms, Reuters reports.
