Details on Gunshots Heard in Yerevan

On March 26, at 05:08, the police operational management center began receiving calls reporting gunshots in 9th Aygestan Street. While an operational group from the Central Police Department was en route, another alert was received at the operational management center. The caller was an officer from the special operations battalion of the Yerevan police department. The officer reported seeing an armed individual with a submachine gun heading towards the intersection of Alek Manukyan and Nalbandyan streets. Although not on duty, the officer pursued the individual, managed to stop him, and began negotiations.

As a result, the man surrendered his submachine gun to the police. Patrol officers who arrived at the scene took possession of the submachine gun and apprehended the 30-year-old man, bringing him to the Central Police Department.

At the department, it was revealed that the man had exhibited blatant disrespect towards society, grossly violating public order, and had fired random shots from an illegally possessed submachine gun.

An inspection of the crime scene on 9th Aygestan Street uncovered eight 7.62 mm cartridges, a magazine for the submachine gun loaded with 30 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition, and a Mercedes vehicle that was damaged as a result of the gunfire. The submachine gun confiscated from the man was loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and a magazine containing 29 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition was also found in his possession.

The 30-year-old man has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
