Artsakh President Calls for Expanded Security Council Meeting
The President of the Artsakh Republic, Araik Harutyunyan, convened an expanded meeting of the Security Council on March 25. This was reported by the press office of the Artsakh President.
The head of state noted that the events occurring in the Republic in recent days necessitate the formulation of a new agenda, as the Azerbaijani side is deliberately destabilizing the situation through obvious provocations.
"The Russian-Ukrainian conflict implied that the Azerbaijani side would take advantage of the opportunity and resort to various provocations in Artsakh. Both through disruptions in gas supply and by breaching into the villages of Parukh and adjacent areas in the Askeran region with aggressive actions, the Azerbaijani authorities demonstrated that they do not respect either the trilateral statement adopted in November 2020 or the political commitments made at various levels thereafter. Nevertheless, I want to urge our population to maintain calm, as despite the challenges and obstacles we face, we continue to work closely with the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in Artsakh to stabilize the situation," said the President.
President Harutyunyan expressed deep condolences and support on behalf of the Security Council members and authorities in memory of those killed in defense of the homeland on March 25, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Artsakh, Kamo Vardanyan, presented a report on the situation at the contact line. Several issues aimed at overcoming existing challenges were discussed during the meeting.
