Armenia is discussing the possibility of paying for gas in rubles with Russia, announced Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, in response to a question from Sergey Bagratyan, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction, regarding whether such an opportunity is being considered.
"Yes, Mr. Bagratyan, it is being discussed because the issue of the currency distribution of the EAEU customs duties is also under discussion, for which countries naturally present their proposals, and countries, first and foremost, present proposals that, alongside solving this issue, the question of currency exports for the largest imports should also be addressed. I cannot promise that this issue will be resolved because there are objective conditions, but nevertheless, today this issue is already being discussed in the public domain and will become a priority at some point," said the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia.
In response to Bagratyan's question about whether there are plans to establish export quotas for certain food products, the Deputy Prime Minister replied that preparations must be made for challenges, adding that a meeting of the EAEU Council had been held where this issue was extensively discussed.
"Because it will not be possible to solve all problems solely by local production, objectively and physically it is not feasible, no matter how much we think, no matter how we change the configuration of reserves, nevertheless, the movement of goods must at least take place within the EAEU to fully resolve these issues, and this does not only concern Armenia; it concerns everyone. In this sense, there is a clear agreement that until March 25, the commission must carry out mutual balance calculations and establish the quota flow necessary to ensure food security for EAEU countries," the Deputy Prime Minister announced.
During the National Assembly session, the Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister Pashinyan were also monitoring news about Russian gas deals.
