Farmers Block Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan Road, Traffic Jam Reaches Several Kilometers

An emergency situation has developed in the Gegharkunik region for nearly half an hour. Residents of Tsovagyugh and Semenovka villages have once again blocked the section of the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway known to the public as the Chambarak intersection as a sign of protest.

According to shamshyan.com, traffic has been completely paralyzed, with the congestion already stretching for several kilometers.

The protest is related to the residents' concerns about the proposed amalgamation of their villages. They are demanding from the government that their villages remain as they have been for many years: “We are against this project because, first and foremost, it harms the farmers. And we want things to remain as they were since the Soviet era. Have we become hostages in the hands of certain people? Our village leaders have barely managed to develop and beautify Tsovagyugh and Semenovka. Now what? Do you wish for life to wither away in these villages? We will definitely not allow that. You said ‘people's power.’ If that is true, then shame on the struggle that brought you to power—to make our lives better—but now you have brought an entire nation to the brink of disaster. What does it matter to you? You make decisions sitting in the city, but do not consider that if there are no farmers, the city citizens will face plenty of problems as well.

We demand that the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, personally come and provide a final solution to our issue. The authorities know better than us that our demands are just. Yet, for some reason, certain officials are stubbornly refusing to heed our people's rightful grievances.
