Egg Prices Nearly Double: Reasons Revealed
In February, the egg market saw dumping by the Shirak company, resulting in eggs being sold below cost, even by 25-30 drams. Today, however, egg prices have surged again, with sales ranging from 60 to 80 drams. This was reported by Mediahub.
The news outlet noted that the MPHI stated that companies without a dominant market position are free to set their pricing policies. Since Shirak has less than 5% market share, no administrative proceedings can be initiated against this company.
Shirak has indicated that they plan to establish a dominant market position starting in June, and therefore cannot offer such low prices. This is likely the reason why the egg market is stabilizing, and egg-producing companies are no longer operating at a loss.
