Police in Gyumri Knock Citizen to the Ground, Resulting in Broken Arm
The Chair of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, Taghuhie Tovmasyan, has made a Facebook post stating:
“I have received an alert that in Gyumri, police used disproportionate force to detain citizen Karapet Poghosyan, knocking him to the ground and twisting his arms, resulting in a closed fracture of his arm. Following my urgent instructions, staff from the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs have contacted the citizen to clarify the details of the incident, and subsequently spoke with the Armenian police for official clarification.”
The citizen has informed the police about his chronic illnesses, which were ignored by them. The police reported that employees from the Mush Division of Gyumri are preparing materials regarding the incident under Article 137.1 of the Criminal Code (Severe Injury). I am preparing urgent letters to ambassadors accredited in Armenia, requesting them to keep this incident under attention and to take appropriate actions for the protection of human rights within their jurisdiction.”
