Charges Filed Against Karahunj Administrative Leader

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced that charges have been filed against the administrative leader of the Karahunj community, Lusine Avetyan, for the illegal acquisition and use of an official document.

According to the investigation conducted by the Goris Investigative Division of the Syunik Regional Investigative Department, it was revealed that Avetyan, who was not included in the list presented by the local NGO "Institute for the Development of Legal Culture" to be accredited as an observer during the snap elections of the National Assembly of Armenia, illegally obtained a form of an official document that confers rights.

On June 20, 2021, the day of the snap National Assembly elections, the administrative leader of Karahunj, acting as a trusted person of one of the coalitions at one of the polling stations, provided the aforementioned illegally obtained document, filled with the details of her cousin, for use.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained during the investigation, the administrative leader of Karahunj has been charged under Article 326 of the RA Criminal Code (Illegal acquisition or disposal of official documents) and part 1 of Article 325 (Forging, realizing or using documents, stamps, seals, forms, vehicle registration numbers). A signature preventing her from leaving has been selected as a measure of restraint.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Notice: A person suspected or accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a legally binding court verdict.
