Peskov Comments on Putin's Controversial Statement Regarding Ukraine's Borders

Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks about the formation of modern Ukraine's borders do not pertain to other former USSR republics, particularly Kazakhstan. This was stated by Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, as reported by Interfax.

“No, it does not pertain to that,” Peskov said in response to a journalist's relevant question.

He added that “in future press conferences and interactions with media representatives,” Putin may clarify his statements.

On February 21, while addressing the recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR in a televised address, Vladimir Putin stated that “modern Ukraine was entirely created by Russia, more precisely, Bolshevik, communist Russia.” According to Putin, Ukraine “can even today rightfully be called ‘Ukraine named after Vladimir Ilyich Lenin,’ as he is its creator and architect.”
