Ukraine Requests NATO to Close Its Airspace
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has appealed to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), requesting the closure of Ukraine's airspace. This was announced today, February 23, on Telegram by Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Supreme Rada's 'European Solidarity' faction.
“Yes, yes, yes. I've talked about this before, and it's good that Ukraine has taken this step. Russia has an advantage in the sky, and we need help. We can handle them on the ground,” wrote the people's deputy.
Goncharenko also explained what the closure of the airspace would mean if NATO agrees to Ukraine's call: “What does it mean to close the airspace? It means a ban on any aircraft flying in Ukraine's airspace. In case of a violation, all aircraft will be shot down. The Americans established such a regime in Syria,” Goncharenko said.
