State of Emergency Declared in Lithuania
The Parliament of Lithuania has declared a state of emergency, ratifying a decree by President Gitanas Nausėda. This information was reported by TASS.
The corresponding decision was made during an extraordinary session of the Lithuanian Seimas. The regime has been introduced "due to actions by Russia," which "threaten the superior interests of Lithuania's national security and the reliable control and defense of the state border." The regime will remain in effect until March 10.
According to Lithuanian legislation, such a regime can be established for no more than one month, after which the Seimas must re-evaluate this decision.
The main restrictions of the declared state of emergency concern the border zone, where inspections of vehicles and personal luggage may be used to detect weapons, explosives, radioactive, toxic, and other hazardous materials.
