Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has issued a statement on the occasion of the Day of the Revival of Artsakh, noting that Armenia and Artsakh continue to stand united in the just struggle for the realization of national aspirations, statehood and sovereignty, the rights of the people of Artsakh, and the international recognition of their homeland.

This was reported by the Information and Public Diplomacy Department of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“On February 20, 1988, the Council of People's Deputies of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region made a historic decision to fight peacefully against a decades-long policy of ethnic discrimination and cleansing imposed on the people of Artsakh and to realize their right to self-determination. These events of 1988 laid the groundwork for the pan-Armenian movement for the struggle to live freely, with dignity, and securely in their homeland and to defend their rights.

34 years after these events, despite the calamities suffered due to the brutal massacres and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Azerbaijan SSR and the subsequent two bloody wars in Karabakh, Armenia and Artsakh continue to stand united in the just struggle for the realization of national aspirations, statehood and sovereignty, the rights of the people of Artsakh, and the international recognition of their homeland,” the statement reads.
