Macron to Have Phone Conversation with Putin
French President Emmanuel Macron intends to have a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday. This information was reported on Saturday by Agence France-Presse, citing the Élysée Palace, as per TASS.
The announcement states that one day prior to the conversation, on Saturday, Macron will have a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“It is our duty to avoid the worst,” the French presidential office's statement quoted by the agency. The Élysée Palace noted that there is still a possibility to avoid an “offensive against Ukraine.”
Macron's team emphasized that “all possibilities should be used to avoid a confrontation that destabilizes the situation in the European continent's security sector.” As stated by the Élysée Palace, further tension could lead to a “different geopolitical arrangement” on the continent.
