Andreasian Claims Nikol Pashinyan Has Given Him No Secret Instructions

The Minister of Justice of Armenia, Karen Andreasian, assures that Nikol Pashinyan has given him no secret instructions regarding constitutional changes. This statement was made by Andreasian during a conversation with reporters.

According to him, if it turns out that our Constitution is perfect, then the Council on Constitutional Reforms will say that there is no need to change anything, and he will not vote in favor of that proposal.

"I personally have an idea of what could be given to the President of the Republic as new powers, but that is not up to the government or the council on constitutional reforms to decide. Let’s be patient and wait to see what opinions the council members will express regarding whether to add or reduce any powers for the president," Andreasian said.

He reassured that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has given him no secret assignments related to constitutional changes. "The Prime Minister has not told me any secret instructions about his thoughts or ideas. There is no agenda that the Prime Minister has secretly given me to lobby here," he noted.

He stated that the Constitution allows for a strong Prime Minister to extend his tenure indefinitely; that is, if necessary, a Prime Minister can be elected 5 or even 10 times, as there is no restriction.

"If there was a desire to hold an indefinitely strong prime ministerial system, then this Constitution provides all the possibilities for that," Andreasian emphasized.
