Beijing 2022: Tina Karapetyan and Simon Senecal Finish 18th in Ice Dance
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia reports that representatives Tina Karapetyan and Simon Senecal secured the 18th place in the ice dance competition at the 24th Winter Olympic Games taking place in Beijing.
Today, they performed in the free program, accumulating a total score of 167.03 points over two performances. A total of 20 pairs participated in the competition.
In the short program, Karapetyan and Senecal earned 65.87 points, finishing in 19th place and advancing to the finals.
The Olympic champion title in ice dance was claimed by the French duo Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, who scored 226.98 points, setting a new world record. Notably, the French skaters surpassed their own record set in 2019.
It is worth mentioning that after a 16-year hiatus, Armenia had participants in figure skating at the Olympic Games for the first time. Earlier in Beijing 2022, Katya Galstyan finished in 74th place in the women’s 10 km classical style cross-country skiing with a time of 34:37.5, while Angelina Muradyan placed 93rd with a time of 39:43.4.
Katya Galstyan also competed in the women’s speedskating but did not qualify for the next round with a time of 4:00:48.
In men’s cross-country skiing, Mikael Mikaelyan finished 61st in the 15 km classical style among 99 athletes, and in the skiathlon 15 km classical and 15 km freestyle events, the Armenian skier placed 47th.
