The Earthquake in Georgia Yesterday Was the Strongest Since 2012

The earthquake that occurred in Georgia yesterday was the strongest since 2012. This was reported by Sputnik Georgia. According to seismologist Ilya Zurab Javakhishvili, a professor at Tbilisi State University, the likelihood of a similar strong earthquake recurring in the near future is quite low.

“It happens, but extremely rarely. According to the usual scenario, a strong earthquake occurs first, followed by a series of weaker tremors, known as aftershocks...” Javakhishvili explained.

It is worth noting that another earthquake was recorded in the Armenia-Georgia border area. The information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia. “On February 14 of this year, at 18:13 local time (14:13 GMT), the seismic network of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia recorded an earthquake in the Armenia-Georgia border area, 15 km east of the settlement of Bavra, at a depth of 10 km, with a magnitude of 3.2,” the Ministry's statement said. The intensity of the underground tremors in the epicentral area was 4 on the Richter scale.
