What Are the Symptoms of Children Infected with the Omicron Variant? An Expert Clarifies

Children infected with the Omicron variant tend to exhibit symptoms more frequently. Specifically, they may experience sore throat, weakness, cough, diarrhea, and rashes, said Andrey Fisenko, director of the National Research Center for Children's Health of the Russian Ministry of Health, to reporters on Sunday, as reported by TASS.

“Omicron is highly contagious. Today, children are becoming infected with it more often than with other variants of the new coronavirus. Currently, there is a whole range of symptoms in children including high fever, weakness, headache, runny nose, cough, and sore throat, along with diarrhea and in some cases, rashes. I want to emphasize that Omicron affects the upper respiratory tract and more frequently causes bronchitis, which, if mismanaged, can lead to complications,” he stated.

The expert noted that an unvaccinated child can only be protected if the adults surrounding them adhere to all preventive measures.

“The safety and health of children depend on how responsibly adults approach the maintenance of these simple measures,” Fisenko concluded.
