Denmark Plans to Halt Coronavirus Vaccination Program in Spring

The Danish health authorities are considering a gradual halt to the coronavirus vaccination program in the spring, stating that they see no reason to offer booster doses to children or a fourth dose to other residents. According to Eurointegration.com, this is mentioned in a statement from the Danish Health Authority.

"The third wave of coronavirus is receding due to the high immunity among the population. The high vaccination rate in Denmark, especially with the third dose, means that we can handle the increasing number of infections without a significant increase in severe cases," the statement reads.

Therefore, the Danish Health and Medicines Authority believes that it is currently unnecessary to offer a third dose to individuals under 18 years old or a fourth dose to certain groups. The agency is discussing the completion of the overall vaccination program this spring.

The authority noted that it still observes high daily figures for infections but simultaneously sees the first signs that the pandemic is preparing to wane. "Considering the very high immunity among the population, along with indications that the third winter wave is receding, and since seasonal changes will also reduce illness, the Danish Health and Medicines Authority is now beginning to plan for the completion of vaccination programs for all targeted groups, including the program for children aged 5-11," the statement said.

It is worth noting that Sweden has halted widespread testing for COVID-19 in the population, even among those showing symptoms of infection. Denmark's neighbors, Norway and Finland, have also announced the complete or nearly complete lifting of restrictions.
