The '5165 Movement' Issues a Statement

The ruling party deputy of the Armenian National Assembly, Gurgen Arsenyan, has stated that the Armenian government allegedly controls the Armenian-Azerbaijani border situation and will not appeal to the CSTO. This is mentioned in the statement issued by the '5165 Movement':

“The ruling force is, in fact, demonstrating that it has reconciled itself to Azerbaijan's incursion into Armenia's sovereign territory and does not intend to utilize international mechanisms for ensuring state security. Moreover, it once again proves that it is absolutely unconcerned about the issues of the country's security, the territorial integrity of the state, and the safety of the lives and properties of people in border regions. In this way, the acting government seems to be sending an invitation to Azerbaijan to seize new territories. This statement leads to the conclusion that the Armenian authorities did not appropriately appeal to the CSTO at the time of the Azerbaijani armed forces' incursion into Armenia's sovereign territory in May 2021 and deliberately did not take advantage of that opportunity.

Meanwhile, some ruling party deputies, members of the government, pro-government political figures, and media outlets announced that Armenia had appealed to the CSTO, and that the latter was not fulfilling its obligations, publicly condemning the CSTO. Was this a deliberate step to undermine the CSTO's reputation in the eyes of our public, or was it a signal to Azerbaijan to invade Armenia's sovereign territory? Were the people deceived; otherwise, why are their statements so contradictory? The fact is that Azerbaijan continues to occupy certain parts of Armenia, holds strategically important heights, controls vital roads, and disrupts the normal life, security, and basic rights of people in several communities of Syunik and Gegharkunik.

The '5165 Movement' once again draws public attention to the fact that the external-security policy of Nikol Pashinyan's government (or its absence) does not arise from an adequate perception of regional geopolitical realities and fundamentally contradicts the vital interests of the Armenian people.”
