Kamila Valieva's Doping Test Positive: IOC to Appeal in Court

International doping testing agency has confirmed that the 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valieva from the Russian team tested positive for doping before the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and has been removed from competitions by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, TASS reports.

The test was conducted during the Russian Championship held in St. Petersburg on December 25. The response regarding the prohibited trimetazidine in the athlete's blood sample was received by the Russian side on February 8 from a Stockholm laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Sweden).

Considering the athlete's age, there has been no public announcement about the positive doping test. The international doping testing agency has notified the athlete that she is temporarily suspended from competitions.

The Russian National Olympic Committee contested the decision on February 9, and the Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency allowed Valieva to participate in the Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee will appeal this decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The international sports federation has also officially announced that it will challenge the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and demand the reinstatement of Kamila Valieva's temporary suspension from competitions.

The IOC has officially confirmed that the award ceremony for the figure skating team competition did not take place due to the challenge of Kamila Valieva's positive doping test.

The current champion of Russia and Europe, Kamila Valieva, is also registered for the individual skating Olympic competition. The short program will take place on February 15.
