Mamikon Aslanyan's Detention Period Extended by 2 Months
The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Arusyak Aleksanyan, has decided to extend the detention period of Mamikon Aslanyan, a candidate for the mayor of Vanadzor, by an additional two months. This was reported by his attorney, Ervand Varosyan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.
Varosyan mentioned that the court's decision was expected from their perspective. Aslanyan's lawyers had submitted a motion for the judge's recusal, which, however, was rejected by the court.
“It was an expected decision. During the previous discussions, it became clear that the judge was not interested in what was happening in the courtroom; it had no relation to the discussions taking place. Additionally, the judge had previously violated the presumption of innocence in her earlier ruling. The judge had also approved the detention issue at a timely stage, which she had granted. In this respect, the judge has made a decision pleasing to her temperament,” Varosyan stated.
