Irresponsible: Uzbekistan Comments on Lukashenko's Recent Statements

The official Tashkent has criticized Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's recent statements, in which he suggested that several countries in the post-Soviet space, including Uzbekistan, would join the Russia-Belarus Union State in the coming 15 years, as reported by ria.ru.

The news source addressed the question of the necessity of joining the Union State, stating that their country has its own path in national development strategy.

Earlier, Lukashenko, in an interview with Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov, stated that Uzbekistan could become part of the Union State of Russia and Belarus due to economic necessities.

“There are several irresponsible statements that in no way correspond to the spirit and level of intergovernmental relations achieved through the joint efforts of the two countries. It would be wise for the esteemed Alexander Grigorievich to first deal with his internal and external challenging issues,” the source stated, commenting on the Belarusian president's statement, according to ria.ru.
