Airspace to Open: All EU Airlines Will Be Able to Operate Direct Flights to Armenia

The Government of Armenia today approved a project aimed at establishing a common aviation area between Armenia and EU member states, which was signed in Brussels on November 15, 2021, during the session of unreported issues.

The justification for the project states that the objectives of the agreement are to create a common aviation area, ensuring accessibility to the parties' markets under equal competitive conditions. The common aviation area will also enable the expansion of air communications and the development of the international aviation system, based on non-discriminatory, transparent, and fair competition among airlines in the market.

This will promote the adoption of EU aviation standards, the application of aviation regulations, and will further enhance cooperation in the field of aviation safety. It is noteworthy that the Civil Aviation Committee announced that the Armenia-EU Common Aviation Agreement would bring several benefits to Armenia, creating new opportunities in the air transport sector and establishing new direct air connections.

All EU airlines will be able to operate direct flights from any point in the EU to any airport in Armenia, and the same will apply to Armenian airlines. All flight restrictions and limitations between Armenia and the EU will be removed, ensuring equal competitive conditions in line with the provisions of open and fair competition.
