VIDEO: Opel Driver Proud to Drive Over the Jeep and Get Away With It During Parliament Discussion
According to Babken Tunyan, a member of the Parliament from the 'Civil Contract' faction, the speeches of the opposition create an impression that the implementation of a point system has contributed to the increase in the number of casualties from road transport accidents. "In order to understand the effects of the point system, we need to remove all related effects, analyze them, and see what consequences lead to what," the lawmaker stated.
Gegam Manukyan, a member of the Parliament from the 'Armenia' faction, countered that the main argument was not the increase in the number of casualties from road transport accidents. "I can provide numerous justifications; for example, why after 279 fatalities in 2017, there were 343 fatalities in 2018? You remember, on the wave of the revolution, penalties and fines were abolished, and they said, 'You are 3 million prime ministers', and no one could keep anyone in check. Let me tell you a true story; in one of the villages of Ejmiatsin, someone was talking to the villagers and asked, 'What has changed in your life now?' They replied, 'You know, before, the Jeep would drive over us, and we could not say anything; now we drive over the Jeep, and they cannot say anything.' The Opel driver is proud that he now drives over the Jeep and gets away with it; that is why we saw that outcome in 2018," the opposition lawmaker said.
