VIDEO: If the draft is adopted, the salaries of deputies and ministers will increase more than the minimum wage, says MP
Babken Tunyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly from the 'Civil Contract' faction, commented on a draft proposal introduced by the 'Armenia' faction, which suggests raising the minimum wage to 100,000 drams. He stated that if adopted, the salaries of deputies, ministers, deputy ministers, and other officials would increase more than those receiving the minimum wage.
According to Tunyan, during the 2012-2017 government program, there was a promise to double the minimum wage, which was not fulfilled. 'They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Now your intention is very good, but raising the minimum wage to 100,000 drams will lead us to a very bad place. If you don’t believe me, you can open and read the article by former Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan, which outlines the risks of raising the minimum wage to 68,000 drams. You can judge for yourselves the consequences of raising it to 100,000 drams,' Tunyan said.
He added that if everything were according to the law, they could legally fix that life should be joyful, that living should be free, and that Armenia should stretch from sea to sea. However, he emphasized that the law is not a goal but a means to achieve goals. 'We have promised to raise the minimum wage to 85,000 drams, and we will do that,' the Civil Contract MP concluded.
