Levon Kocharyan: Authorities See No Resistance, They Are Becoming More Brazen
Levon Kocharyan, the son of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, was present today alongside numerous citizens in front of the Court of Appeals. He demands justice in the case of Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan.
“I don’t have high hopes from this judge. Recent years have shown that those judges who are courageous enough to uphold justice are few, as many succumb to the pressures of the authorities. In this regard, I do not have high expectations from today’s court session,” Levon Kocharyan stated in a conversation with reporters.
It is to be noted that Court of Appeals judge Rubik Mkhitaryan is reviewing an appeal against the decision of the general jurisdiction court that rejected the defender's motion to replace the imprisonment of Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan with bail.
Levon Kocharyan pointed out that such actions are important not only to encourage those in custody but also to draw the attention of the indifferent segments of society. “This insolence has crossed all bounds. Our authorities see that there is no resistance, and they are becoming more brazen and indifferent. This is not leading us to a good place; we’ve already reached a bad situation,” he said.
Kocharyan emphasized that despite being in custody, Arush Arushanyan has achieved a crushing victory over the ruling party candidate. “Such a thing probably hasn’t happened anywhere in the world, and it should be studied,” noted Levon Kocharyan.
