The Union of Turkey and Azerbaijan is Formalized by the 'Shushi Declaration' – Babayan

The 'Shushi Declaration' is nothing but the geopolitical and military amalgamation of Azerbaijan and Turkey, stated Davit Babayan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh, in an interview with 'Factinfo'.

It should be noted that the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan signed a new military cooperation agreement in Shushi on June 15, 2021, known as the 'Shushi Declaration'. The declaration contains points regarding cooperation in various fields, including military and economic sectors. On February 4, 2022, it became known that the parliaments of both countries have already ratified it.

According to the foreign minister of the Republic of Artsakh, these two countries have always de facto acted as a united front, and this 'declaration' merely formalizes that union de jure. He suggested that the next step would be for Turkey and Azerbaijan to unite and function as a single state. He also did not rule out the possibility that further rapprochement between the two hostile countries could take place again in Shushi.

“Both Turkey and Azerbaijan have expansionist ambitions, and they do not hide this. Our tasks remain unchanged: to conduct the right geopolitical policies and stay united. Any shortcomings in this regard could be fatal for us,” emphasized Davit Babayan.
