‘Hayastan’ and ‘Pativ Unem’ Factions Issue a Statement

‘Hayastan’ and ‘Pativ Unem’ factions have issued a statement regarding the current political situation in Armenia.

The statement emphasizes: “The Constitution of Armenia requires that the President of the Republic be impartial, guided by national and state interests. Armenia is currently facing serious internal and external challenges. National unity and public solidarity have no alternative. However, the government, which has brought the country to the brink of disaster and divided society, has decided to continue its existing approach, prioritizing narrow team interests over state interests.

Despite the fact that the institution of the President should serve as a truly neutral and unifying entity for society, the current authorities have decided to propose and solely elect a President of the Republic exclusively from their own ranks.

The international community remains silent and inactive in the face of evident signs of democratic regression, including the formation of a personal dictatorship.

We have discussed the appropriateness of proposing a candidate; however, under the current circumstances, we consider it unacceptable and wrong to participate in legitimizing this election, even indirectly. Based on these affirmations, the National Assembly factions ‘Hayastan’ and ‘Pativ Unem’ have decided to refrain from participating in the presidential election.”
