In the city of Samsun, Turkey, unknown individuals attempted to attack the statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. However, for reasons that remain unclear, the assault could not be completed. This is reported by Ermenihaber.am.
It is reported that on February 3, the assailants wrapped ropes around the horse's legs, upon which Atatürk is depicted in a seated position, and tried to pull the statue down using the ropes. The police, through surveillance footage, managed to determine that the attackers also approached the statue with a vehicle.
Shortly thereafter, the Samsun governor's office announced that police officers had already arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
A different attack took place later, during the night of February 3 to 4. This time, the assailants set fire to the Justice monument in the Uzunköprü district of Edirne. Around midnight, unknown individuals ignited the monument using flammable materials. The fire department managed to extinguish the flames upon arrival, but the statue was seriously damaged.
It is noted that a criminal case has also been opened regarding this incident, and the relevant authorities are working to identify those responsible.
