According to the "Pasta" newspaper, as it is already known, the ruling "Civil Contract" party is going to nominate the Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturyan for the position of President of Armenia. The temporary acting President of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, stated that several candidates were put forward at the party's board meeting, including himself.
According to information from the "Pasta" newspaper, there were five candidates: National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Araik Harutyunyan, Minister of High-Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the "Republic" party Aram Sarkisyan, and one female candidate, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan. Alen Simonyan has submitted his withdrawal, as he announced himself, being the acting president.
According to our sources, many members of the Civil Contract party opposed Araik Harutyunyan's candidacy, while Aram Sarkisyan's candidacy was not particularly discussed. It was noted that he may have issues regarding his person in Russia. As for why the only female candidate was not selected, it remains unclear at this time. Ultimately, the candidate was chosen whom Pashinyan had already made a decision about.
