Tension Remains High at Kyrgyz-Tajik Border
The situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border remains tense, but there are currently no preconditions for conflict. Kamchibek Tashiev, the head of the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan, has stated that the situation at the border is not calm and is quite tense.
“As long as the issue of border delineation has not been resolved, conflict may arise at any moment, especially since people live there,” he noted. It is reported that all residents who had been evacuated earlier have returned to their homes.
Recall that on January 27, tensions escalated at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, according to the Kyrgyz border service, due to the closure of the Batken-Isfana road. After negotiations between representatives of the border services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the section of the road was reopened. However, the situation worsened, leading to gunfire between the border troops of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which continued for more than five hours. The exchanges of fire occurred in the Tort-Kocho and Chur-Dabo areas.
