Azerbaijan Begins Construction of the Aghdam-Fizuli Highway in Artsakh

Azerbaijan has initiated another infrastructure project in the occupied territories of Artsakh. The project involves the construction of the Aghdam (Aknar) - Fizuli (Varanda) highway, the foundation of which was laid during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Varanda on October 17, 2021, according to Azerbaijani media reports.

The highway will span a length of 64.8 kilometers, with a roadway width of 15 meters. Currently, earthworks are being carried out on the Aghdam - Fizuli highway. The project also includes the construction of 60 drainage systems, 5 underground passages, and 3 new road bridges.

It is important to note that on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan reached an agreement regarding the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a statement was signed stating that seven regions of Artsakh, along with Shushi and Hadrut, would be passed to Azerbaijan, with the exception of one village from the Askeran and Martuni regions, as well as the villages of Talish and Mataghis from the Martakert region.
