Who Will Fulfill the Duties of the Speaker of the National Assembly

Starting today, until the election of the new President of the Republic of Armenia, the duties of the Speaker of the National Assembly will be temporarily fulfilled by Hakob Arshakyan. This has been reported by the Public Relations Department of the National Assembly of Armenia, stating that according to Article 6, Part 4 of the constitutional law "Regulations of the National Assembly", the powers of the President of the Republic, Armen Sarkissian, are considered to be suspended from the moment of the publication of the act regarding the termination of his powers until the newly elected President of the Republic assumes office.

During this period, the duties of the Speaker of the National Assembly will be carried out by the Deputy Speaker, Hakob Arshakyan. Previously, we reported that Alen Simonyan has signed the act on the termination of Armen Sarkissian's powers as President. Until the newly elected President of the Republic assumes office, the authorities of the President of the Republic will be carried out by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Alen Simonyan's temporary tenure commenced today with the signing of this document.
